Here is the top of the villain hierarchy… The Joker.
A villain should be the opposite of his nemesis, the yin to their yang, while that is exactly what The Joker is to Batman. The Joker is the chaotic, playful, murderer that Batman is not. Like with the Green Goblin and Spider-Man this single villain has shaped his rivals world in ways no other villain has. From paralyzing Batgirl with a bullet to the spine, or killing Robin II with a crowbar he has been the true arch enemy to the Dark Knight.

I recommend reading ‘The Killing Joke’, ‘The Long Halloween’ and ‘Death in the Family’

Here is another villain that I like, not a top 5er… just a good villain, Venom.
Venom had the unfortunate luck of being born into the most cliché part of comic book history. In fact A LOT of people started into comics at this time, me included, because of the excitement new characters were creating like Spawn and X-Force. He has stood the test of time, and in comics, that says a lot.
Some other villains I like but didn’t get art this week are: Lex Luthor, Dr. Doom, Magneto, Juggernaut, Hobgoblin, Sinestro and Harley Quinn.

Here is one of my top 2 villains, the Green Goblin! This drawing is a copy of an amazing Alex Ross work you can see HERE.
The amount of stuff the Green Goblin (as Norman Osborn and Harry Osborn) is amazing. Some of the earlier stories were so ground breaking, but with how often comic book continuity is shifted around its hard to take it seriously. But to me the Green Goblin will always be one of my top 2 villains and top 5 comic book characters.
I recommend reading Amazing Spider-man #39-40, #121-122 and Spectacular Spider-man #200.

I think I am gonna post some of my favorite villains this week, today will be one of my top 5 favorites, Superboy-Prime.
He lived in an alternate reality Called Earth Prime (basically the world we live in where comic book heroes are read about in comics). Superboy-Prime got his powers right before his world (Earth-Prime) was destroyed and then he went to the reality that the DC Comic book heroes lived in. Over time he became so angry with the heroes of Earth and how bad they actually were that he turned on them in an effort to destroy their world and bring back Earth-Prime.
With all the powers of Superman, without his greatest weaknesses (Kryptonite and Magic) he is an amazing villain. I suggest reading ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ and ‘The Sinestro Corps Wars’

Anyone can make art. ANYONE. All it really takes is the first step, put brush to canvas, or pencil to paper and go. And sometimes having the courage to just do it is enough to stop people from trying. And this is going to be hard if you are a normal modest person.
This brings me to my second point, most ‘artists’ are ego maniacs. They tend to make art based on getting their name out there, and so art really takes a back seat to branding. So if you combine a thirst for attention and the willingness to put brush to canvas you get ‘modern art’.
A very special thanks to my Mom and Aunt for ‘painting’ this picture with me. I really like how it turned out. This was the first time either of them had picked up a brush for the sake of ‘making art’. And all I did was hand them the brushes and paints and they made all the choices, some were more willing than others. But it’s one picture made by three non-artists using water, paper towels, brushes, stencils, sharpie and spray paint.
I hope others out there start making art as well, and start signing the back of the canvas, not the front…

Recently I have been trying to more raw, less planned out drawings, and the best way to do that is to just skip sketching as complete (pencil work) and just put pen to paper. Well my old sketchbook was just not working, the paper was too porous. When id use a fresh sharpie the paper would soak up and bleed the ink. So this time I went with a lighter weight paper, here is the cover…
And so far I’m really happy with how much cleaner the line work turns out. Here is my first post from that sketchbook which was inspired by Kanye West’s ‘All of the Lights’ and a friend’s Facebook picture…
