A break from the norm for a special post today, a post to celebrate!

This one is dedicated to Jeff and his amazing wife Jesse who are pregnant and just found out they are having a baby girl.  They are still a couple months out but let us be the first…ah… or maybe second or third… or something, to wish you guys and little Kara Marie Gardner the very best.

Two soon to be super parents with their cute little Supergirl.

Congrats!

Random sketches with random songs:

“My hands are searching for you/ My arms are outstretched towards you/ I feel you on my fingertips/ My tongue dances behind my lips for you/ This fire rising through my being/ Burning I'm not used to seeing you/ I'm alive, I'm alive!...” Flyleaf in ‘All Around Me’

“I watch how the moon sits in the sky in the dark night/ Shining with the light from the sun/ The sun doesn't give light to the moon assuming/ The moon’s going to owe it one…” Linkin Park in ‘A Place for My Head’

“I'm not like them/ But I can pretend/ The sun is gone/ But I have a light/ The day is done/ But I'm having fun/ I think I'm dumb/ Or maybe just happy…” Nirvana in ‘Dumb’

“Whenever I look back/ On the best days of my life/ I think I saw them all on T.V./ I am so homesick now for/ Someone that I never knew/ I am so homesick now for/ Someplace I will never be…” The Bravery in ‘Time Wont Let Me Go’

“Sing to me/ Sing to me/ I don’t want to wake up/ On my own anymore/ Don’t feel bad for me/ I want you to know/ Deep in the cell of my heart/ I really want to go/ There is another world/ There is a better world/ Well, there must be…” – Emily Browning in ‘Asleep’

The Saga of Bacon-Man

A brief back story here, two of my old coworkers and I used to get all amped up to go to this awesome burger place called ‘Red Mill’, and I had been emailing with them and they wanted to go again. One of the most amazing things about Red Mill is that they have this GIANT tower of cooked bacon maybe like 10 to 12 inches tall, its pretty awe inspiring. So when the urge for bacon hits, or a good burger, we go Red Mill-ing.

So, one of my coworkers emailed me and said I needed to do some bacon inspired drawing. I agreed. No ideas really hit me right of the bat, so I sat on it for a day. I went to the coffee shop and then it kind of hit me, a superhero inspired bacon picture… BACON-MAN!

So as I’m drawing late last night the door to the coffee shop opens and about six Washington State Patrol officers walk in and settle over my shoulder to get there drinks. One of the officers sees Bacon-Man and gives me a glare, SON OF A… So basically there is a 1000% chance I get a speeding ticket next time I hit the freeway.

So without further ado, here is Bacon-Man…

Got some random different stuff for today.

I hit Starbucks in the morning and they had a trivia question to get a free shot of coffee, the question was this: “What was the creature’s name that eats Boba Fett in ‘Return of the Jedi’?” So here is a Boba Fett’s helmet in the intestine of the Sarlacc…

Went and saw the movie ‘Sucker Punch’ last night and really liked it, it’s exactly what I expected, great fight scenes, sweet CG, and the soundtrack was amazing.  Here is the main character, Babydoll…

And lastly, here is a commission I am working on, its Animal from the Muppets playing the drums, I really like it so far…

Take the time to call someone you love...

I was at Wal-Mart and cruising through the toy section (don’t question it) and saw a Batman play set by Fisher Price.  I thought cool, super young kids can get into Batman way before they are allowed to touch book or comics.  Then I saw the Joker play set… if you know ANYTHING about the Joker within the DC Comic world you would know he’s a mass murderer hell bent on torture, misery and death.  Exactly what I want my young child to play with.  So here is a little something for you, Joker after he killed Robin… Check out more about The Joker here

‘Die Hard’: "Yippie-ki-yay, motherf&%#er." – John McClane

And a movie that helped launch Wild Kingdumb, ‘Chasing Amy’: “YOUR MOTHER'S A TRACER!” – Banky Edwards

One of the things I really enjoy about my drawing is preparing my sketchbook.  I basically go through every magazine I find and take out all the pictures I like or inspire me; I’ve been doing this for a LONG time.  As I was going threw my stuff I found a calendar from 1995 that I’d never had the heart to throw away.  One pic especially, it was of Patrick Ewing throwing down a monster dunk.  Well one of my good friends (basically my sister at the time) used a gold pen and outlined the picture, and I’d always loved it.  Well I was listing to one of my favorite old school hip-hop songs ‘They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)’ by Pete Rock and decided to use some of my oldest pictures to cover my sketchbook.  Here it is (Front then Back) with some picture info…

The Front:

Starting from the top left and going clockwise:
*Wu Tang t-shirt tag from 1995
*Jack Nicholson as the Joker from my favorite movie of all time ‘Batman’
*A girl that very much reminds me of another girl from the 90’s
*Todd McFarlane cover for Hulk, his art WAS comics in the 90’s
*‘Where The Wild Things Are’ the character design and line work are still amazing to me
*Snake Eyes from ‘G.I. Joe’
*The Japanese kanji for my name ‘Dan’
*Star Scream from ‘Transformers’
*Patrick Ewing dominating the Pacers from a calendar picture from May of 1995.

The Back:

Starting from the top left and going clockwise:
*Some girl from the cover of some magazine, I love everything about this picture, and its been my ideal ‘wow’ picture since the 90’s.
*Allen Iverson when he was a Georgetown Hoyas, I love the white Air Jordan’s he is wearing.
*Rasheed Wallace was the man even thought I never liked the Tar Heels.
* More Allen Iverson

I hope I can improve my art from one sketchbook to the next, thanks for all the support!

I’m not a big TV watcher but the shows I do actually take the time to watch I normally just buy on DVD.  I was sitting around and did a little sketch of the 'Mad Men' intro logo...

and the decided to draw Jack and Vincent from 'LOST'...

and Charlie from 'Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia'.

Happy wear green day, or whatever.  I don’t like green but there are some pretty cool people who do like it…

Like Dr Doom trying to dry his armpits before the big meeting…

Link in his traditional outfit…

And the annoying Wolverine, at his ‘other’ job as a janitor…

Here is a TINY Bob-omb painting, about 3x4...

I know there are a lot of Starbucks haters out there, especially the hipster coffee-snobs that only like obscure rock bands and skinny jeans… I digress.  I myself like Starbucks because any shop you go to will feel about the same and give you a drink that is exactly like the other one you got at another Starbucks.  They recently changed there logo taking off the ring of words around the mermaid thing.  I used to take great joy using a green sharpie to edit those words and face them towards an annoying customer, well sadly those days are now gone, so here is my final tribute to that lovely Starbucks logo…

It wasn’t the Decepticons that destroyed Cybertron, it was the unions…

I love seeing the artistic process so here is a basic walkthrough of a sketch to ink to Photoshop.  This is Spider-Man from Amazing Spider-Man #258, when Reed Richards removes the alien symbiote and gives Spider-Man a Fantastic Four costume and a paper bag to wear to go home.  Hope you enjoy, if you do… buy me Amazing Spider-Man #258... fyi, I'm a nerd.

'We All Cry For Japan'

Found my Iron Man #1 in my comic collection today, I must fight the urge to go on Ebay and buy more vintage comics!

My first experiment in digital art.

After a long day a little Super Mario Bros can fix a lot; I’m not sure about zombieism though…

Dear Spider-Man 3, How are you so completely terrible? Why is it when I bond with a host in this movie I make them change their hairstyle and do crappy dance routines? Please return me to Todd McFarlane ASAP! From, The Alien Symbiote
